Necropolis (Naghshe Rostam):<\/strong><\/p>\n

The royal graveyard near Persepolis in which Xeroxes, Daryus the first, Artaxerexes the first and Daryus the second has been buried. This place is called Naghshe Rostam but for all of the foreign tourists is called necropolis as Greek people called it long time ago. A place full of beautiful inscriptions and reliefs from ancient Persia to Islamic era.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This place used to be considered as a holy place in ancient era besides being close to the international road, so the emperors used to present their stories and tombs on the mountain of this place.<\/strong><\/p>\n

There you visit some inscriptions, reliefs and tombs from Elamites, Achaemenids, Sassanids and even Islamic era.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In reliefs you see the kings are fighting against the enemies and beating them which are the symbol of Sassanian architecture. The relifs are so alive, vivid and dynamic and you really feel they are moving.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0In Achaemenids era they believed that from these mountains they could cross the gate between this world and hereafter. You visit four big crosses in which there are small doors and reliefs. The reliefs show how people are supporting the emperor to cross the bridge towards another world. He is going towards God as he has been his representative on earth in Persian ideology. These tombs used to be used for the royal families of Achaemenids and were locked and closed but the Greek broke them to find treasures after Alexander invasion in 331 B.C but no one knows what they really gained after breaking them. \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

It is so close to the Persepolis so in order to visit there you should take the road towards Marvedasht from the northern gate of the city of Shiraz and right after the famous Persepolis on the left side of the road this great nice graveyard draws your attention.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
