The Tower of silence in Yazd:<\/strong><\/p>\n

A weird place in south eastern part of the city of Yazd which shows how the Zoroastrians used to leave their dead bodies in nature.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Zoroastrians did not want to pollute four sacred elements like water, soil, fire and air so they used to leave their dead bodies on top of the hills in order to be eaten by vultures. Then they destroy the bones completely by a kind of acids which is called Tizab in Farsi.<\/strong><\/p>\n

They prayed for three days for the person who had passed away to pass the bridge towards heaven; if he was a good man so he or she could pass the bridge of Chinvat to reach the heaven and on the other hand the hell embraced him or her.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"\u00a0\"\"<\/p>\n

In this place you visit two towers from 16th<\/sup> and 18th<\/sup> centuries but some believe that the place dates back to ancient Persia. There are also some destructed buildings which used to be the places for people to stay for three days to pray for the dead person to pass the Chinvat.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Up to fifty years ago this way was prevalent in this place but due to so many reasons such as the disastrous smell of corpses the zoroasterians decided to bury their corpses but in order to respect the nature and four sacred elements they had to implant a tree for each corpse. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Today you can also visit a graveyard just close to the old towers. <\/strong><\/p>\n
