No one is quite sure about the correct time of building it but we know for sure that here used to be the gate of the city of ancient Hegmataneh and this lion could be recognized even during the invasion of Alexander. Nowadays it looks like anything but a lion so do not expect visiting a real lion shaped stone.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Lion has been always an important animal for Persians since ancient time so they have used the shape of lion on different architectural, cultural and political elements as the symbol of power and wisdom.
