Damghan is considered as one the oldest cities in Iran. Damghan, Saddarvazeh or Hecatompylos used to be the capital of Parthians and even after the Arab invasion was one of the best places to settle down; that\u2019s why one of the oldest mosques all around the world was founded there.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As one of the perfect samples of an Islamic mosque Tarikhaneh is the second oldest one in Iran which shows the fundamentals and elements of a mosque precisely.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before the Arab invasion there used to be a fire temple so the architecture of the mosque reminds you of Sassanids art more than Islamic one.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tarhkhaneh used to be called Narikhaneh which means the house of fire in Farsi.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the other hand, some believe that Tari means God in Turkish and Mongolian languages so Tarikhaneh means the house of God.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The main yard having 27 meters width and length has no ablution pool and used to have eight gates.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shabestan which used to be a place for people to stay overnight has 26 columns; having the art of Sassanian era represents their palaces. <\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The minaret of Tarikhaneh used to be in the western corner whose style is just like Iraqi minarets and was destroyed due to a great earthquake. <\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The existing 26 meters minaret dates back to a thousand years ago which has 86 stairs. <\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
