Although taking about steel and metal could seem boring or harsh but getting to know them, open new horizons and let you understand how practical and essential they are for every one’s life on the planet.

There are various types of steel products by which our lives are promoted every day.

1. What are C channel and U channel steel beam used for:

What is C channel beam:
C-shaped channel beams, also called structural channel and parallel flange channel (PFC) beams are real masterpieces which have an outstanding unique shape consisting of a wide web, typically aligned vertically, and two flanges that stick out from one side of the beam.
What is U channel steel beam:
Mild steel channel, also known as U channel or C channel that is measured by width x depth x weight per meter. These practical sections are manufactured from S275JR grade steel and have excellent and extraordinary machinability and weldability.
U channel is widely used in civil engineering and construction not only to support floor joists but also to weight bear above window and door gaps where the structural load does not require a I beam. It is also supplied in lengths up to 6 meters long and can be easily cut, drilled, or machined. It is particularly suited to all methods of welding. U Channel is produced to grade EN 10025-2 S275JR one of the most widely use steel specifications for general construction.
What is the difference between C and U channel:
U channels offer a wide variety of shapes and sizes with round or flat bottoms and different leg heights. Their depth and the leg height vary depending on how the U channel is used. On the other hand, the C channels are widely used in construction such as buildings, walls, roofs, and ceiling support.

2. Different grades of steel beams:

Usually there are four grades and categories for steel as follows:
Carbon, Alloy, Stainless and Tool.
Detailed guide:
There are eight ASTM standards including A36, A572-Grade 50, A588, A690, A709, A913-Grade 50, A913-Grade 65, and A992.

ASTM A36 mainly applies to carbon structural steel.
Which steel beam is the best grade:
The I beam is considered as the most robust beam shape. It is very strong in the vertical direction besides having a uniform and equal response in other directions. Surprisingly It is also utilized as the main beam in cranes and long trailers.
What is the best steel beam:
Most commonly, steel beams come in A572, A588, and A36. However, the A572 steel is a high-strength, low-alloy (HSLA) steel offering excellent strength regarding to its weight. This steel alloy is a good balance of tensile strength, weldability, and low cost. A588 is another HSLA steel alloy with even greater tensile strength than A572.

3. Guide for choosing the best grade of steel beam:

There are so many useful information on the internet by which you can find the proper product you are searching for but the point is that how trustworthy they are?!?
What is the strongest grade:
Developed to improve the earthquake resistance of buildings and having approximately 2.7 times the yield strength (*2) of conventional 490-N grade steel, 1,000-N grade steel is considered as the world’s strongest ultra-high strength steel for building structures.
What is grade A36 used for:
The A36 steel plate is most commonly manufactured into various structural steel parts.
This practical grade is used in welded, bolted, riveted construction of bridges, buildings and general structural purposes which rescues our lives almost every day.
What grade of steel is most common:
The Low carbon steel also called mild carbon steel or plain carbon steel, is the most common type of steel on the metals market.
Some of the most common low carbon steel plate grades are ASTM A36, A572 Grades 42 & 50 and A830-1020. You should know that each of the mentioned grades have moderate strength, high ductility, and lighter weight due to the low carbon content and addition of other alloys.

4. What are four classifications of steel (alloy steel, carbon steel, tool steel…)

Alloy steel and it’s usage:
The Alloy steel is the most used to manufacture pipes, especially the ones for energy-related applications. another usage is in heating elements manufacturing in home appliances like toasters, silverware, pots and pans, and corrosion-resistant containers.
Low carbon steel properties:
The low carbon material is relatively soft and weak, but has outstanding ductility and toughness. In addition, it is machinable, weld-able and is somehow inexpensive to produce. Medium carbon steels have carbon concentrations between 0.25% and 0.60%.
What makes these 4 types different:
Each different type of steels has unique characteristics regarding to their usage in its respected fields.
For example Carbon steels are the most common types of steel accounting for around 90% of steel production.
Alloy Steels use different types of elements to influence the characteristics of the metal.
Stainless steel is for applications with corrosives.
Tool steels are for cutting and drilling equipment because of the higher heat resistance and hardness they get from the alloys they have.
Carbon steel vs stainless steel:
Carbon steel has a matte finish and also a higher tensile strength and is harder than stainless steel. We use This material for knives and other bladed instruments that must maintain their cutting edge longer. However, this steel will unfortunately oxidize when exposed to moisture, even in small amounts.

5. What is grade number in steel:

The SAE Grading System uses a four-digit number for classification. The first two digits denote the steel type and alloying element concentration, however the last two digits indicate the carbon concentration of the metal.
What is grade 1 number of steels:
Grade 1 is carburizing steel for powertrain and transmission components, such as shafts, gears, axels, etc.
What does grade mean in metal:
A grade is a way of classifying metals. As you know you can designate a metal grade is by numbers, letters, or a combination of both. We usually determine a metal grade by its chemical composition, its mechanical properties, or both. There are many different organizations that create various standards for a given metal grade.
What is ASTM steel grade:
ASTM steel grades are those that meet the exacting standards for specific grades of steel developed by the American Society for Testing and Materials. The standards include mechanical properties and steel chemistries and specify the testing methods.
What is grade A and grade B in steel:
Grade A has lower carbon content also is a softer steel and easier to bend but Grade B has higher carbon content and tensile strength than Grade A and Grade C has higher tensile strength than Grade B.

6. What does AISI means in steel (it differences with ASTM):

AISI stands for the American Iron and Steel Institute. The first two digits in the AISI number indicate the grade of steel, while the last two digits give the amount of carbon in the steel.
What is ASTM vs AISI:
AISI is the American Iron and Steel Institute while ASTM is the American Society for Testing and Materials. AISI operates in the United States and North America only while ASTM has members from more than 100 countries making it an international organization.
Is AISI a stainless steel:
AISI stands for American Iron and Steel Institute. Therefore, both grade 304 stainless steel and grade 316 conform to the American standard. The European equivalents are 1.4301 and 1.4401, respectively.
What is AISI 316L:
The AISI 316 and AISI 316L describes stainless, austenitic chromium-nickel-molybdenum steels which have good resistance in non-oxidizing acids and chlorine-containing media. Due to the chemical composition, the material 316 and the material 316L are inherently corrosion resistant metal alloys.

7. The strongest shapes of steel beam you have ever know:

The triangle is the strongest to as it holds it shape and has a base which is very strong also has a strong support. The triangle is common in all sorts of building supports and trusses.
What is the most common steel shape:
The most common form of steel beam is the standard I-beam (or S-beam for standard), named that way because a cross-section of it resembles an uppercase I.
What is stronger angle or channel:
While a bit more expensive, c-channel is significantly more rugged in most applications than equivalent quality angle iron. In projects where either is viable without introducing issues of expense or simple engineering headaches and obstacles, many will prefer c-channel.

8. What are the types of steel connections:

The classification in the connections provided in the steel structure is as follows:
1. Riveted connections.

2. Bolted connections.
3. Welded connections.
4. Pinned connections.

Bolted seat connections:
There are two types of bolted seat connections: stiffened and unstiffened. If there is a large reaction force at the end of the I beam so we recommend the stiffened connection types as they have adequate capacity to resist these forces.
Bolted framed connections:
In this type, steel beams connect to the supporting elements whether it is a girder or a column with certain connection angle. Usually, we calculate the connection based on the loads at the end of the beam.
Welded seat connections:
We use welding rather than bolts to fasten the steel beam elements. Yo can also split into stiffened and unstiffened types.
Welded framed connections:
A framed connection is a shear-resisting steel connection made by welding or bolting the web of a beam to the supporting column or girder with two angles or a single tab plate. Seat angle carries shear load.
End plate connections:
An end plate connection, consists solely of a vertical plate shop-welded to the end of the web transverse to the axis of the beam with fillet welds on each side of the web. The field connection comes to existence by bolting the end plate to the flange or web of the supporting member.

9. What are different types of steel beams:

Square, rectangular, circular, I , T , H , C , and tubular are examples of beam cross-sectional shapes which the companies construct from steel.
What is the strongest type of beams:
The I-beam is the most robust beam shape. It is strong in the vertical direction and has a uniform and equal response in other directions. The industries use I-beams as the main beams in cranes and long trailers.
H BEAM and it’s usage:
Usually we use These beams in the construction of buildings as well but also large trailers and bridges, among others. Due to their slightly different cross-section shape, thicker central web and wider flanges, H beams can bear larger loads than I beams.
Differences between I BEAM and H beam:
The main difference between an H-beam and an I-beam is that the web of an H-beam is much thicker than that of an I-beam. A thicker web means a stronger beam, which allows for more load-bearing capacity. This means that for the same amount of structural support, you can use fewer H beams than I beam.

10. Differences between column and beam in building:

Column and beam are the main parts of the structural frame. Beams transfer the total loads from the slab to the column and columns carry it to the foundation and provide stability to the structure.
How many types of beams are in steel structure:
Structural steel beams and girders are available in three shapes: standard or “S” beams, wide flange or “W” beams, and pile or “H” beams.

Iranian steel companies have been working so hard since 1927 to satisfy not only the domestic demands but also export their products to different countries world wide. They always utilize the best partners and workers to produce high quality products.
