Karaftu cave:
Located in 67 kilometers of the city of Divandareh and dating back to Mesozoic era, Karaftu cave as a national landmark is one of the most important attractions in west of Iran.
Come out of the water, this cave used to be a proper settlement for so many people before the Islamic era. Besides the presence of humans, the pigeons, bats and swallows have always used to be the settlers of Karaftu.
Karaftu means the prayer hall of sun and there are evidences which proves there used to be the followers of Mithraism living there.
There is a Greek inscription in Karaftu which tells the story of the runaway Greeks who were leaving Persia due to the uprising of Parthians.
The entrance gate is around 25 meters high and the main way is around 750 meter long. Karftu has too many halls, corridors and porches that have not been discovered completely yet. The architecture inside different rooms show brilliant handmade structures whose beautiful ornamentations are beyond imagination.
