Tabiat (Nature) bridge of Tehran

An outstanding architecture

Tabiat (Nature) bridge:

It is a very nice modern bridge over Modarres autobahn which is one of the main highways in north of Tehran which connects Aboatash Park to Taleghani Park. The 270-metre Bridge is the largest pedestrian overpasses Tehran. The word tabiat means “nature” in the Persian language.

The whole plan was drawn by a young architect lady ( Diba Tensile Architecture ; Leila Araghian and Alireza Behzadi)  and was constructed four years ago. It is a good combination of Le Corbusier and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe styles including attractive restaurants and coffee shops.

It has won several awards such as the Popular Choice Prize for Highways & Bridges from the Architizer A+ Awards, a global architectural competition based in New York and the 2016 Aga Khan Award for Architecture.

Leila Araghian designed this bridge as part of a local competition for the design of a bridge to connect two parks in north Tehran which were separated by a highway. In designing the bridge, a process which took a total of a year, Araghian wanted it to “be a place for people to stay and ponder, not just simply pass.” That’s why the bridge is not straight and contains benches and seating.

Construction of the bridge began in 2010, using a total of 2000 tonnes of steel and 10000 cubic meters of concrete before it was finished in October 2014. Construction of the bridge over a large highway was described as a big challenge, with platforms and temporary tunnels built to ensure that nothing fell onto the highway below.

To visit this great bridge you should go to Vanak square then take Haghani Expway then right after the junction of Africa and Haghani the first alley on the right side takes you there.

You can also go to Haghani subway station then follow signs inside of the Taleghani park to find this nice bridge. It usually takes around ten minutes.
