Jalal al din; the ruler of Yazd in 15th century, decided to build a complex to show the greatness of Persian Islamic architecture and present the city of Yazd as a modern one in those times.
This square used to be the center of Yazd where people gathered to say prayer in the mosque, earn money in bazaar, play sport in Zourkhaneh and join the great funeral ceremony of Imam Hussein; the third Imam of Shia Muslims. Even nowadays many celebrations and gatherings are held in this nice square.
