The comprehensive mosque:
Every city in Iran used to have a comprehensive mosque after Arab invasion. The comprehensive mosques were the center of the city also were used to be a place for Judgment, learning, teaching, praying, pondering and communication that’s why the name comprehensive was a good word for calling this kind of mosques.
In the city of Qazvin there is a large mosque which dates back to more than ten centuries ago. Every dynasty has tried to add an architectural value to this masterpiece of art. When you enter it from the main gate in Sepah street, a long aisle takes you to the heart of the history. most of the recent parts of this mosque reminds you of Safavids era but there are still some parts which are the remnants of Qajar and Seljuk dynasties. This mosque is a fine sample of Persian mosque including four Evans, great Shabestan, central pool and praying hall. In recent years the ministry of cultural heritage has made a museum in which different stones from different eras has gathered beside so many information about this mosque.
As the oldest mosque in Iran (or one the three oldest ones) used to be a sacred fire temple in Sassanian era which had to turn out to be a mosque after the Arab invasion.
Visiting this mosque is a substantial experience which teaches you the development of Persian Islamic architecture through the ages.
