The ancient city of Darreh Shahr:

The remains of this ancient city are located between the village of Bahman Abad and the modern town of Darreh Shahr which is around 3 hours far from the city of Ilam. Arches, domes and many other signs of the city life have been found there.

Civilization in these remains date back to the Sassanid dynasty (224-651), during the reign of Khosro III.

Darreh Shar or Madaktou as the Sassanians used to call it, was considered as a summer resort due to its great freshening nature in which people could go camping, hunting and staying overnight.

Madaktou used to be the second capital of ancient Elam which was occupied and destroyed by Assyrians and left alone till the reign of Parthians who brought back glory to this city again and the Sassanians glorified Madaktou more than ever till the Arab invasion which destroyed its civilization again.

Another blueprint of this place is meeting Lur nomads whose music and traditions touch your heart as an intangible heritage.

Darreh Shahr is a cultural and historical complex in which you find a fine combination of nature, culture, civilization and history representing many outstanding masterpieces.
