The mausoleum of Nader Shah in Mashhad
This mausoleum is located close to the holy shrine of Imam Reza which belongs to Nader Shah who regained power after the fall of Safavid dynasty and founded Afsharid dynasty.
He was called the second Alexander, the Iranian Napoleon and the last east occupier by European. He fought Afghans and Ottomans also the Russians and he claimed the kingdom of Persia in 1770 A.D.
He appointed the city of Mashhad as his capital and built his own mausoleum. Right after that he attacked India and brought fabulous treasure.
After he was killed his corpse was taken to different places and finally Agha Muhammad Khan the founder of Qajar dynasty decided to have it in Tehran but later on one of his successors took it back to Mashhad in late 19th century. He also built a new mausoleum but in Pahlavi era, Mohammadreza Shah decided to build a great mausoleum to show you his majesty.
The statue of Nader maybe is the best part of this place to show you his greatness.
