Abr means cloud in Farsi and people call this huge fantastic forest, Abr due to the ocean of clouds which embraces you and touches your soul and represents Paradise.
Dating back to the third geologic period; Jurassic era, this forest as one the oldest one worldwide which is around 35 thousand hectares is close to the city of Shahrud in which you face the point that the sky hugs the earth. There you find out how two climates or ecosystems face each other and give birth to one of the most beautiful children of nature.
The temperature of Abr forest varies from 6 to 20 centigrade depending on the seasons.
As one of the successors of Hyrcanian forest it has different types of trees such as Plum, European pear, Common hawthorn and Raspberry besides herbal plants which are something special about this forest.
About the animals we should mention brown bear, wolf, panther, wild pig, Jackal, fox, rabbit, goat, roe deer, snake and the birds like partridge, common wood pigeon, quail, golden eagle, vulture, falcon, ring-necked pheasant and common cuckoo.
There are various water falls inside this forest among which Shor Shor and Aloochal are the most famous ones.
The best time to visit there is spring in which the untouched beauty of nature blossoms.
