The tower of Gonbadekavus in Golestan
As a world heritage monument and the highest brick tower (72 meters) all around the world, this tower is considered as the most important icon for Golestan province. Dating back to 10th century, the tower was built by the order of Ghaboos ebne voshmgir; the ruler of the region in that time, which has been considered as one the best engineered towers worldwide. There is no reliable evidence to explain the real function of it due to the massive destruction and devastation of Mongol invasion in 13th century but we know for sure that there used to be a great civilization there which could not survive and this tower is the only survival memorial of the ancient Gorgan.
Visiting this outstanding landmark really amazes you and shows you the greatness of Persian architecture.
