Although pearl cannot be categorized among the Iranian stones but it can be considered as one of the most precious gems in Iran. The important pearl mines in the world are located in India, China, Japan, Sri Lanka, Madagascar, Red Sea, USA, Britain, France, and the Persian Gulf.
The pearl trade has a long history and dates back to more than six thousand years ago. There were so many people who were involved in pearl market in ancient Persia due to the rich source of this stone in Persian Gulf whose precious pearls were so famous for their transparency and brilliance.
For so many years people thought the pearls are the tears of angels as they did not know the real origin of them but in recent centuries, by the help of science, people understood the truth about this legendary stone. Pearls are made inside some bivalve shells. When foreign particles settle inside the oyster, the animal secretes organic matter layers, conchiolin, and carbonate, around the foreign body, which eventually forms a pearl.
Any ornamentation could be much more beautiful with pearls…
