lapis lazuli stone has a long history in Iran so that the ancient Iranians used this stone in tiling and sculpture. It is interesting to know that the more golden dots inside the lapis lazuli stone and the fewer white streaks it has, the more valuable it is. lapis lazuli mines are very limited in the world. The best lapis lazuli mines in the world are Badakhshan Afghanistan and the Hindu Kush. The stone is also found in Russia, Pakistan, South America, and Iran.
It’s been thousand years that Lapis Lazuli has been used as a precious stone for ornamentation. Lapiz means stone in Latin language and lazaward in Arabic and Farsi comes from its Latin origin. Nowadays the Iranians call this beautiful blue stone Lajevard.
For the first time it was discovered in Afghanistan and even today this country has a great reputation for exporting high quality Lapis Lazuli.
In ancient times this stone was used in jewelry and later in Middle Ages in painting. There are a lot of palaces, churches and mosques in Europe and the middle east in which Lapis Lazuli; the stone of friendship and honesty, is showing its beauty and plays an important role using its blue color to make a balance and coordination in communication and architecture.
So many historians believe that there is a deep connection between this stone and people’s beliefs which dates back to more than six thousand years ago. Lapis Lazuli; the symbol of Jupiter, was considered very valuable in ancient Mesopotamia, Egypt, China, Greece and Rome. They even believe that you can watch the reflection of the whole world in this stone. Some people recommend it as a useful prescription to heal headache, sore throat, varicose veins, infertility disorders and
menstrual pains.
