The burnt city or Shahre Sookhte; located in 50 kilometers south of the city of Zabol, is considered as one of the oldest civilizations worldwide. Having so many discovered objects in recent years has made this place a real heaven for archeologists and history lovers since 1967. But unfortunately, no one has paid attention enough to this great treasure.

Shahre Sookhte used to be a connection between west of Persia and the civilizations in India and Pakistan. The history of the civilization of this city dates back to more than five thousand years ago and represents a progressive city with different sciences, industries and arts. It was also called the city of art due to the outstanding artistic found objects there and also the city of science due to the complicated scientific found objects there especially in medicine field.

It is interesting that there used not to be any gate and wall or even watching tower around the city which shows their peaceful relationships with other nations. The archeologists have not found any war instrument yet in Shahre Sookhte that’s why many has called it the city of peace.

In Sumerian relieves there is a city which is called “Erteh” whose description reminds us of Shahre Sookhte but no one has proved it. no one even knows about the origin or race of the people who lived there and some believe that the extraterrestrials built it.

The name of Shahre Sookhte became widespread around 150 years ago due to a huge burnt area in the area.

Shahre Sookhte; as a world cultural heritage and registered monument in UNESCO, belongs to Bronze era and had passed four periods till its end.

The whole area used to be around 280 Hectares including five regions such as residential, central, industrial, memorial and graveyard. Between 2500 until 2200 B.C and for 300 years this city showed its glorious face to the whole ancient world.

Using camels for transportations was invented there and there is almost the sign of every industry you can imagine a city could have in ancient time.

Based on the archeological excavations many believe that this city was burnt twice but some others believe that the dust and ashes on the city are because of industrial activities and there was no fire but no one is quite sure what happened exactly to put an end to this civilization.

One of the most fabulous information about this city is the medical development they could achieve. After the excavations in the graveyard the archeologists found an artificial eye and a skull on which the surgery had operated which proved the first brain surgery in history.

Another amazing thing about this city is a clay cup on which a goat is trying to reach a tree and when you twist it on a potter’s wheel the whole story comes to your mind just like an animation so it seems the people of this city knew about animation, theater and even cinema.

The modern water supply system is another masterpiece the archeologists found there, something that astonished everybody all around the world.

Nowadays the weather in Shahre Sookhte is always hot and intolerable so the best time to visit there is autumn but remember to take proper tools in order to save yourself against the sun and heat.
